Those Other Commissions

What they say about themselves:

from AGMA's about page-

"As part of its new Governance arrangements AGMA is in the process of establishing 7 new Commissions with delegated responsibility from the Executive Board for overseeing delivery and the development of more specific startegic work against the aims and objectives set out in the strategy, where this has been identified as an appropriate function for the sub regional level.  Seven such Commissions have been or are in the process of being set up and in most cases will be formed from a mix of elected members and other partners.  The 7 planned Commissions are:-

Economic Development, Employment and Skills
Environment- see our bluffers guide page here.
Health
Improvement and Efficiency
Planning and Housing
Transport.
Public Protection
(The Public Protection board has a seven page planning document here www.agma.gov.uk/ccm/cms-service/stream/asset/?asset_id=2156028)

"As the new Commissions are established they will either have their own web sites or information on them will be contained on this site.
The respective Commissions are at various stages of inception, with the Health Commission and the Economic Development, Employment & Skills Commission the most advanced."

Translated that means:
A tier of bureaucracy and democracy (insofar as some of the people on each are elected councillors) that may reduce us all to tears.
Done well, it will lead to better communication and coordination. Done badly it'll be more turf battles, expenses scandals and subsequent cynicism from the public.

Where to find out about 'em::
Well, the only one with a website so far is the Economic Development, Skills and whatsit one, and that's because it inherited the Manchester Enterprises site

Here you can find a very first schematic of how it seems to work. We produced it, so don't get all excited. As and when they produce something, we'll let ya know.

Questions we've got: xx
Will each one have the mix of 6 electeds and 5 non-electeds.
When will each kick start into existence
Will the meetings be open to the public, and minutes published?
Will each of them have to take climate change as a serious consideration in its plans? What (veto) power will the Env Commission have over other Commissions' work?
etc
