Manchester City Council

What they say about themselves: xxx
"Manchester City Council aims to continue to develop Manchester as a City of national and international significance where people choose to live and which companies want to invest in; a city where all citizens benefit from regeneration and have equal access to the wealth, employment and other opportunities which this brings. We will promote Manchester as an attractive and exciting multicultural city to encourage people to live and settle here, to invest here and to visit. The Council aims to improve the health, education, security and quality of life of its citizens by working with them to promote and support sustainable communities which are safe, friendly and clean. We will ensure that residents receive high quality services which meet their needs and we will set up and work in partnerships with other organisations across all sectors to promote initiatives that are in the city's interests and provide equality of opportunity."

Translated that means:
We couldn't possibly comment.

Questions we've got:
Heck, it's quicker to give a list of questions we HAVEN'T got...
What input do they anticipate the people of Manchester having in putting together the "Climate Change Action Plan"?
Why isn't it due until December 2009, given that in its Principles document of January 2008 it promised a complete plan (and six months consultation)  "later in 2008".
Is a consultancy going to be hired to do this plan?
If so, what will it be paid, including expenses?
When is it being tendered?
etc etc See future issues of Manchester Climate Fortnightly for more questions. And maybe a few answers...

Where is the food, transport stuff?
Why has the council decided not to keep to its principle of 6 months of consultation on the climate strategy?
How does this fit with LI 188?
Where does it talk about adaptation?? (mentions of resilience)
Is there any acknowledgement that growth may be part of the problem rather than the solution? Hah hah They are not even going to TRY to square that circle, just throw it in the Too Hard basket.
What learning from the whole Manchester is My Planet experience??
