Dear all,

another email bulletin from Manchester Climate Fortnightly. Next full newsletter will be out next Sunday, with the usual mix of upcoming events, council news, “Coping with Copenhagen” etc.

Best wishes, and do remember to send us your news and gossip: scurrilous is good, but we may not be able to publish it!

Things of note this week

a) The “Manchester Report” event at Manchester Town Hall heard from twenty experts with varieties of schemes to “solve” climate change. On the Saturday afternoon, Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Climate Change was around. You can read a rough summary of his speech here-

http://manchesterclimatefortnightly.blogspot.com/2009/07/ed-miliband-strikes-again.html

and a rough summary of the question and answer he did here-

http://manchesterclimatefortnightly.blogspot.com/2009/07/miliband-q-and-at-manchester-report-sat.html

You'll be able to see a summary of all twenty presentations if you buy the Guardian this coming Thursday.

b) This week the G8 meets in Italy, and Barack Obama chairs a side session (with a bunch of other countries) on climate change. The Americans are moving fast now, making up for a lot of lost time. Doubtless there'll be lots of coverage, so be sure to buy a packet of salt and take a pinch with every article telling you we are all saved.

c) Manchester Climate Forum will be holding a meeting entitled “Climate Change: the year ahead”, looking at Copenhagen and beyond, the national picture post-General Election June2010, and the Greater Manchester picture between now and August 2010. The meeting will be on Tuesday August 4 at the Friends Meeting House.
More information imminently.
